What will your employees achieve?

Skills for Life qualifications are designed to recognise the basic skills your employees use in the workplace, such as reading, writing or maths.

There are two Skills for Life Certificates:

  • Level 1 (equivalent to GCSE grades D-G)
  • Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE grades A*-C)

Having a recognised qualification will help them in their work and open doors to future career development.

Who is it aimed at?

Skills for Life qualifications in literacy and numeracy are designed for employees working in any business.

For employees to be eligible to access our programme they must:

  • Be 19 years of age or over
  • Normally and lawfully resident in the UK and Islands for 3 years preceding the programme
  • Not currently be on an apprenticeship programme or New Deal programme
  • Have a contract of employment

How are the qualifications assessed?

At Levels 1 and 2, employees take the National Basic Skills Test (live and on-line but can be done on paper if required) which consist of 40 multiple choice questions. The Literacy test lasts maximum one hour and Numeracy maximum one and a quarter hours.

Train To Gain's initiative makes us able to offer the programme at no cost to the employer and that only release time would be required - suitable to the employer needs.
